Person ✵ Place ✵ Thing
Every story has to start somewhere.
At Story & Artifact Co., each project begins with one simple question:
Is this story about a person, a place, or a thing?
This storytelling lens helps me focus the research and uncover the deeper meaning behind the histories we hold.

Person
Who they were
Sometimes, the story begins with a family member, a name in a record, a photo in a box, a relative you’ve always wondered about.
Through research and discovery, I begin to piece together their life, their choices, and their legacy.

Place
Where they lived
Other times, it’s a location that sparks the journey. A family home, a plot of land, a town someone left behind.
These places hold memory and context—sometimes across generations.

Thing
What they left behind
And sometimes, it’s an object that leads the way. An heirloom passed down with quiet meaning. A quilt, a pot, a letter, a tool.
These things often carry the most personal stories—they just need someone to listen.
I’ll be sharing examples from each of these categories here on the blog and on social media.
Which stories are waiting in your family’s people, places, or things?
